The short version. Marnie has no accounts. Most of what you do stays on your iPhone. When you ask Marnie to read a text, what you pasted goes to our server and to our AI provider, and we keep it with Marnie's read until you delete your data in Settings.

What stays on your iPhone

Deleting the app removes these. "Delete my data" in Settings removes them too.

What goes to our server, and why

Only when you tap "Read it with Marnie", and only after you said yes on the AI permission screen, the app sends:

We use these to produce the read. We keep the request and Marnie's read on our server, with technical details (time, app version, model, duration, size), so we can look into problems and improve the reads. We keep them until you delete your data. If you send feedback from Settings, we keep that message with the same anonymous ID, also after you delete your data.

Please leave out names or details you would rather not share. Nothing is ever sent to the person you're texting.

Our AI provider

To write a read, the texts and context above are sent to the AI model we use, currently Anthropic's Claude. The request reaches it through OpenRouter, a service that passes it on to a company that runs the model (Anthropic, or a cloud provider that hosts Claude). We tell OpenRouter to use only hosts whose terms say they do not store the request or use it to train models.

Payments

Subscriptions are handled by Apple. We use RevenueCat to check whether your subscription is active; it receives the anonymous ID and your purchase history. We never see your card or Apple Account details.

Usage data and crash reports

If usage data is on, the app records which screens you open and the choices you tap, through PostHog, not linked to your identity. It also makes a session recording of how the screens look as you use them, so we can see where the app is confusing. Text fields, the texts you paste, Marnie's reads and names are blacked out on your iPhone before anything is sent, so your texts and your name never reach PostHog. You can turn all of this off in Settings. Crash reports (Sentry) contain technical details of the crash and the app version, not your texts.

Notifications

The morning line and "wait" reminders are scheduled on your iPhone. No notification content comes from our server.

Deleting your data

Settings → Delete my data removes the texts and reads from our server and everything Marnie stored on your iPhone, and gives the app a new anonymous ID. We keep two things: a record that a read happened (time, app version, model, duration, size, no text), and any feedback you sent us, so we can learn why people leave. Neither can be traced back to you: the old anonymous ID is never used again. Your subscription stays with Apple and comes back with Restore purchases.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us what we hold about your anonymous ID, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. Most of this is one tap in Settings; for anything else, write to ofarukbagci.official@gmail.com. If you are in the UK or the EU, you can also complain to your data protection authority.

Age

Marnie is for adults 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone younger.
